DC Socket (small)

A DC socket (small) or power jack is responsible for receiving power and is usually mounted on the PCB or chassis of an electronic device.

A standard DC power jack or plug has two conductors with the center pin typically for power and the outer sleeve typically for ground. However, reversing this conductor configuration is acceptable. A third conductor that forms a switch with the outer sleeve conductor is also available in certain power jack models. This switch can be used to detect or indicate plug insertion or to select between power sources based on when the plug is or is not inserted.
