DS3231 RTC is a Precise Real-Time Clock Module with 32Kbit EEPROM and a built-in 10-bit temperature sensor having a resolution of 0.25C. The DS3231 RTC module Precise Real-Time Clock Module is a low-cost, extremely accurate I²C real-time clock (RTC) with an integrated temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) and crystal. The device incorporates a battery input and maintains accurate timekeeping when the main power to the device is interrupted.
The integration of the crystal resonator enhances the long-term accuracy of the device as well as reduces the piece-part count in a manufacturing line. The ds3231 Arduino is available in commercial and industrial temperature ranges and is offered in a 16-pin, 300-mil SO package.

How does the DS3231 work?
DS3231 is a real-time clock (RTC) with an integrated temperature compensated crystal oscillator. It consists of a battery which provides supply to DS3231 when the main supply is off. In this way, it continues working without any interference. It is available in industrial and commercial temperature ranges.
How accurate is the DS3231?
This usually results with the clock being off by around five or so minutes per month. However, the DS3231 is much more accurate, as it comes with an internal Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator(TCXO) which isn’t affected by temperature, making it accurate down to a few minutes per year at the most.
How do I set the time on my RTC DS3231?
Connect your Arduino to your computer, then open the Arduino IDE, and open the SetTime sketch which you can find under: File->Examples->DS1307RTC->SetTime. Open up the Serial Window – make sure the baud rate is set to 9600. If everything goes correctly, you should see a success message as shown in the last image above.
